Dr. C. Robert Cloninger, the Wallace Renard Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Genetics and Director of the Center for Well-Being at Washington University of St. Louis developed the TCI in the 1980s. Since then, longitudinal studies on the TCI have examined the genetic, neurobiological, and developmental underpinnings of human personality. Based on this solid research foundation, the TCI can be used by individuals or by professionals to guide treatment, coaching, or interventions, or simply as a diagnostic tool.
